Biography

I am a humanitarian engineering with a passion for using design and technology to address complex challenges. I currently lead education, research and training initiatives for Engineers Without Borders Australia, a not-for-profit international development organisation. With a passion for education I have developed numerous outreach programs including the Regioneering Roadshow, a science and engineering road trip that has travelled across Australia and engaged thousands of students in rural and remote communities. I am the founder of the Humanitarian Design Summit program, where Australian students work alongside community members in Cambodia, India and Nepal to develop innovative designs to support daily life. I am the Director of Link Festival of Design, Technology and Social Change (www.linkfestival.com.au) - the region's premier event for connecting people with technical skills to social issues that matter. I am part of the Melbourne Global Shapers community and an alum of the Asialink Leaders Program and Foundation for Young Australian's Young Social Pioneer program. Outside of work I love drinking coffee and adventure travel. I once set a Guinness World Record for a 3,700+ km rail journey across China. For the Westpac Social Change Fellowship, I will be building on the work I have done leading Humanitarian Design Summits (www.ewb.org.au/designsummit) and learn about ways to effectively create innovative education programs that focus on sustainability, community engagement and social issues - particularly within science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The areas I am exploring include: partnerships for success; leveraging technology for greater impact and scale; and local innovation - learning from makers and social entrepreneurs.
